A Minnesota
Havanese breeder of show quality Havanese and pet Havanese, located in
the Minneapolis St. Paul suburbs of Minnesota. Health, temperment and
type are a priority.
The Havanese originated
in Cuba and was once known as the Havana Silk Dog. Today's
Havanese descended from the now extinct Havana Silk Dog or Bichon Havanias.
As natural show offs and clowns, they are often the center of attention.
Havanese are one of the most lovable and intelligent of dogs. They thrive
on human companionship, are extremely affectionate, and are excellent
with children.
About Us
I have been involved in showing, training and breeding dogs in Minnesota
since 1995. I'm an active member of the following organizations
Havanese
Club of America,
Havanese Rescue, Inc,
and a founding member of the North
Star Havanese Club.
Our Philosophies
The focus of my breeding program is to produce well structured, healthy,
happy, self-confident dogs which closely adhere to the breed standard
for the Havanese. It is my policy to only breed dogs that have achieved
their AKC breed championship and have been carefully screened for any
hereditary diseases.
My
Havanese are raised in my home and are treated as members of the family.
They are companions first and show dogs second. I do not have a kennel
where they are housed without attention or keep them in a separate room
in the house. My dogs and puppies romp and play in a large secured fenced
yard, chase around the house and sleep in bed with me at night. If they
are not playing, my dogs and puppies are often seen cuddled up on someone’s
lap or napping on the couch.
Puppies are also raised in my home where they
are socialized both individually and with well socialized children of
various ages, adults, and adult dog. By doing this, the puppies accept
handlings, noises, and distractions which eases the puppies transition
to their new homes.
All pet puppies are sold on a non-breeding contract and must be spayed/neutered
by 6 months of age. All my puppies come with a 4 year written health guarantee,
an unconditional 30 day trial period, 4 generation pedigree, a
handbook for new owners, and health records.
We have received very positive feedback regarding our application
questionnaire and the content of our new owners handbook. In fact, the
Havanese Club Of America and other local breeders have
adapted either one or both for their own use and have promoted them as
excellent examples of the information that should be provided to new puppy
buyers! What a nice complement!
Havanese
Health
Havanese are known as a healthy long lived breed. Most remain active and
youthful well into their teens. Although they have few hereditary diseases,
problems do occur. For information on health issues in the breed, visit
the Havanese
Club of America.
My Havanese eyes are
examined annually by a veterinary ophthalmologist, located in Minnesota,
until the dog reaches the age of 7. All breedable dogs are then registered
with CERF
(Canine Eye Research Foundation) on an annual basis. All my puppies are
BAER tested
at the University of Minnesota by a veterinary audiologist to diagnose
and rule out genetic deafness. All puppies, pet and show, will be sent
home with a copy of the results of their baer test, signed by the Audiologist.
All my breedable dogs are screened for hip dysplasia, patellar luxation,
cardiac disease, and elbow dysplasia at 2 years of age. All test results
are then registered with
OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals).
